African Drumming Lifts Spirits At The Gold Coast Marathon

African Drumming Gold Coast Marathon

Sunday 1 July 2018 marks the 40th edition of the Gold Coast Marathon & runners are celebrating with African Drumming! We are thrilled to be chosen to provide weary runners with a welcome distraction. The Gold Coast may be famous for it’s flat, fast and 42km scenic course, but it’s no easy feat so African Beat’s Authentic African drummers will be there to create an exciting atmosphere for participants & spectators.

Best Place to Watch the Gold Coast Marathon

African Beat is stationed right next to Cafe on Hedges, on the corner of Montana Avenue and Hedges Avenue, Mermaid Beach. The perfect spot to sip your coffee while you shake your body & cheer those brave enough to endure the challenge. Keep your eyes peeled for the extra courageous runners that do it in costume! Runners pass this spot at the 10.5km & 21km (half way) mark. Be there between 8am-10.30am to catch the most action.

African Drumming and the Gold Coast Marathon

You don’t need lab research to tell you that music can help you go longer and feel lighter as you run but the research does speak for itself. There is an inherent rhythm in running. A lot of runners report that when they “get into the groove” it feels like they could keep going forever and ever. The infectious beats will be playing on repeat in the runners head as they continue through the course. Not forgetting the fact that our performers will be dressed in colourful African costume, so just the sight of them will be distraction enough.
