Wosowoso Pair (Wicker Shakers)
$25.00 – $30.00
Description
Known by the “Ga” tribe in Ghana as wosowoso, other names for this handmade instrument are caxixi (pronounced caa-shee-shee) and kiss kass. Each instrument varies in size as they are hand woven from brightly coloured reed, filled with pebbles and seeds and finished off with a hard gourd base.
These are typically played upright/sideways with a shaker in each hand so they are sold as a pair. Try using a sharp up-and-down motion so the seeds and pebbles strike the hard gourd base. The Wosowoso are a wonderful accompaniment to any instruments and are used in traditional drum ensembles – You’ll see these used by The Salaka Ensemble very often.
